It’s that time of year again! As the summer draws to a close and shorts, tank tops and flip-flops are retired for the season, the cool, crisp air can only mean one thing: autumn is around the corner. Add some warmth and spice to your home by capturing the feel of the season with these five fun DIY fall decorations for the house.
Wall Decal
Start off the new season with fall home decorations for the wall. Spruce up the living room, family room or any other room in the house that needs some fall pizazz. Trace various shapes of leaves on different color peel-and-stick wall appliqués such as brown, copper, golden yellow and rust. Using a pencil, stencil in a few swirly lines to simulate the wind blowing the leaves for a unique and gorgeous fall home décor; go over the pencil with some black paint to give the marks definition.
Fall Wreaths
Give the front door a little flavor with a fall wreath. Simply purchase a foam wreath, berry branches, vines and fake leaves from the local arts and crafts store. Be sure that the leaves are various shades of gold, red and brown. If the foam wreath is white or a light color, spray paint it. Using a glue gun, attach the branches and leaves to the foam wreath. Be sure to move at a fast pace because, although the glue is hot, it tends to dry quickly. Add a bow or a few sunflowers for an added flair.
Table Centerpiece
Having a stunning centerpiece as part of the fall home decor will attract every eye in the room. Be creative and resourceful at the same time by taking an ordinary old globe and turning it into a spectacular piece of art. Separate the globe’s hemispheres and fill each of them with colorful leaves, pinecones, small pumpkins, apples and seedpods. Place one centerpiece on the living room coffee table and the other one in the dining room.
Acorn Napkin Rings
Add some fall home decor to the dining room table by making acorn rings. Go for a nature walk and collect some acorns; you’ll exercise both your creativity and your body! For each napkin ring, drill tiny holes in about 10 acorns. Wire the acorns together in an alternating top-to-bottom sequence so the acorns fit snuggly against each other. Twist the ends of the wire together and cut off the excess.
Fall Window Decorations
Spruce up any window with fall home decorations by creating miniature wreaths. Gather various natural elements such as twigs, berries, pinecones and leaves. Hot glue the twigs together in the shape of a square. Buy small wreath foams or cut out circles from cardboard and wrap ribbon around the circles before gluing the decorations to the wreath. Hang the new creations on the window.
Embrace the fall season by giving your home an autumn makeover. Simple, yet natural, fall home decorations can give any apartment or house a warm and earthy look that will last the entire season.
